Security Guide
Three pillars of verification
The Material Feel
Genuine Zimbabwe banknotes were printed on polymer-reinforced cotton-blend paper. It has a distinctive crispness and slight texture that no inkjet print can replicate. Counterfeits almost always feel too smooth or plasticky.
If it feels like a high-quality banknote, it usually is.
Raised Serial Numbers
Every genuine note carries a two-letter prefix followed by a seven-digit serial number. These are printed in slightly raised ink that you can feel with a fingernail. If the serial number is perfectly flat, be cautious.
Check for: AA1234567 format.
The UV Security Test
Under UV light, genuine notes reveal hidden patterns. The serial number shifts colour, the bird emblem glows blue, and the central strip fluoresces brightly. Counterfeits show none of this.
Every ZimBills note is UV-tested before dispatch.
The scent of
true history.
A genuine note is more than just a visual artefact. It is a sensory one. When you open your ZimBills envelope, take a moment to smell the paper.
These "circulated" notes carry a specific, earthy aroma—the scent of bank vaults, street markets, and the hands of the millions who relied on them for survival. It is an olfactory link to a time and place that no longer exists.
"History isn't always clean. It's often worn, and it always has a story."
While we meticulously filter out notes with excessive damage or heavy staining, we preserve the natural "marks of the past"—small creases and a softened texture—that prove these notes were truly there.

The year money
stopped making sense.
JAN 2008
10 Million Dollar Note
Introduced as hyperinflation hit triple digits.
JUL 2008
100 Billion Dollar Note
The 'Special Agro Cheque' era begins.
JAN 2009
100 Trillion Dollar Note

APR 2009
The End of the Dollar

The Result
By 2009, the Reserve Bank was printing notes that carried more value as heating fuel than as currency. These notes represent the exact moment an economy reached its breaking point.
Did you know?
"At the peak of the crisis, prices for basic goods like bread or eggs were doubling every 24 hours. A 100 Trillion dollar note couldn't even buy a bus ticket in some regions."
